Bright Connections Occupational Therapy

Lauren Vanderlist, MS, OTR/L

Hello, my name is Lauren and I am the owner and sole provider of occupational therapy services with Bright Connections Occupational Therapy. I have worked as an occupational therapist in a variety of settings including private practice, home-based early intervention and within a hospital-based outpatient clinic. I have experience working with children of all ages both individually and within small groups.

I completed undergraduate work at Alma College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Exercise and Health Science with a minor in Psychology. Following graduation I attended Washington University in St. Louis where, in 2008, I earned my Master of Science in Occupational Therapy. I am registered with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT), licensed in the State of Michigan and am a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association.

Continued education is extremely important to me and I love learning. I completed my PLAY Project certification in July 2016 and am versed in other play-based approaches to treatment such as the DIR/Floortime method as well as Stanley Greenspan's Functional Developmental Levels. I have also furthered my education in the areas of sensory integration and sensory  processing, reflex integration and sensory approaches to feeding. I have experience using the Handwriting Without Tears program and work to find the underlying issues that often accompany handwriting difficulties.

Working as a team with the families I serve is paramount to establishing and reaching goals. I truly believe that empowering and educating parents is the most important aspect of the work that I do.

I recently moved to southeast Michigan after living in Chicago for several years. I am originially from Big Rapids, MI and am excited to be back in this great state and living closer to family.
